How has living in Mumbai shaped your daily life and approach to wellness and self-care?

Born and raised in Mumbai, I never had time to focus on wellness and self-care. As a result, as an adult, I make much more of an effort to care for myself. I have learned that it is of the utmost importance in Mumbai, a place that doesn’t stop.

What does your ideal morning routine look like, and how does it set the tone for your day?

My morning starts a little slow. I wake up and have coffee; if my mom is around, I like chatting with her. If she’s not around, I use that time to organize my thoughts and plan for the day. I enjoy slow mornings in Mumbai- it is much needed!

How does Indian culture influence your skincare, beauty rituals, or overall approach to wellness?

We, as Indians, don’t believe a lot in external applications. Instead, we try to center our approach to beauty towards more internal practices. We like to use things like natural juices, DIY packs, etc.

Can you share some of your favorite spots in Mumbai?

For relaxation, I love to sit by the sea on Marine Drive. It helps to restore a sense of calm. My other favorite spot is Carter Road Promenade.

What are the non-negotiable products in your skincare routine?

I need a very good moisturizer and sunscreen. These are two products I never leave my house without.

Are there any Indian beauty or wellness practices you swear by?

I enjoy doing ‘natural packs,’ aka DIY beauty treatments. One of my favorites is applying cold raw milk with a cotton pad. It is believed to be a natural moisturizer and soothes irritated skin. Another one I like to use every 10 days is a mixture of gram flour, yogurt, and turmeric. It forms a paste-like texture, and I leave it on my face for 10-12 minutes. It’s good for evening skin tone, detoxifying, and moisturizing.

Do you have a favorite DIY haircare recipe passed down through family or friends?

I love oiling my hair at least once every two weeks. I use plain coconut oil. I warm the coconut oil before applying it, then massage it through my scalp. I keep it on overnight and wake up with softer hair in the morning with an unbeatable sheen. It’s always an excellent treatment for taming flyaways.

Do you have a mantra or philosophy that keeps you grounded?

Put your head down, do your work, and don’t be scared of anything; the universe has your back.

Are there any hobbies or creative outlets that bring you joy?

Dancing brings me a lot of joy. It refreshes my soul, plus it is a great way to exercise.
