What first sparked your interest in skincare and led you to become an aesthetician?
In short, I was about 21 years old when it all began. I was young and not sure what I wanted to do. I was out one evening, and a friend leaned across the table and said, ‘I think you would make a great aesthetician.’ I had no idea what she was talking about but I felt moved to look into it. As I learned more, I decided to take a leap of faith and jump in, and it ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made. It brought me back to Calgary, where I grew up, and I found my calling!
Can you walk us through your journey—what kind of training and certifications did you go through to become an aesthetician?
Training was only six months back then, but it was very intensive. Most of my instructors were from Eastern Europe, and the standard of education was quite rigorous.
What is a skincare product that you can’t live without?
Micellar water. My eyes are pretty sensitive, and cleaning mascara and eye makeup is a chore. This has been an absolute lifesaver.
Can you share a few of your favorite Eminence products?
I love the Lime Stimulating Masque, the Birch Water Purifying Essence, and the Citrus and Kale Potent C+E Masque. I love the heat-stimulating treatments unique to Eminence; heat brings vitality to the skin.
Beyond skincare, how do you prioritize wellness in your life? Do any daily or weekly rituals keep you feeling your best?
I stay away from technology and blue light at least 30 minutes before bed
I prioritize being outside and being as close to nature as possible.
I always pay special attention to my skincare routine and change it constantly depending on my skin needs.
Friends and family come first- always!
What are your hobbies outside of skincare—anything creative or unexpected that brings you joy?
I love being in the kitchen. My stepdaughter has Type 1 Diabetes, so I have had to be very mindful about food, making me more creative in cooking. I also love to pick up a canvas occasionally to paint.
Who is an inspiring woman who stands out to you—whether in the skincare industry or beyond?
My mom. My mom is currently living with two cancer diagnoses and is very much a ‘walking miracle’. Despite these challenges, she has always had such a calming presence. She is an exceptional keeper of secrets and has been incredibly supportive throughout my life. In situations where most people would become bitter, she pulls through with grace.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, personally or professionally?
When faced with a problem, tackle it head-on without involving emotions.
Be prepared for everything and anything.
If you could give everyone one piece of skincare advice, what would it be?
Wear SPF! This is my number 1 battle with everybody. Find an SPF that works for you, and stick to it.
