What is your current skincare routine?

AM Routine:

First, I start with a gentle cleanser. I like something foaming because it emulsifies better than non-foaming. You don’t have to splurge here- I use Cerave.

Then, I use a Vitamin C serum. Here, you’ll want to invest. You want to ensure you’re using a high-quality ascorbic acid, so you’ll need to shop around. Here are a few that I like:

  • The A Method C Antioxidant Gel. It’s silky smooth and doesn’t oxidize

  • Revision Skincare C+ Correcting Complex

  • SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic. This one is good, but pay attention to the smell and color as it is prone to oxidation.

After Vitamin C, I like to use a hydrating serum. Lately, I’ve been loving the Hydrinity Renewing HA Serum. It plumps the skin and makes skin appear less dull.

I don’t use moisturizer because I’m pretty oily and find simple is better! Instead, I go right in with my tinted physical SPF with zinc and titanium dioxide. Here are a few that I love:

  • ISDIN Eryfotona Ageless. This is particularly good for oily skin.

  • Epionce Daily Shield Tinted SPF 50 Sunscreen. I love this because it provides BB cream-like coverage.

  • EltaMD Tinted Sunscreen

PM Routine:

At night, I use the same gentle cleanser in addition to micellar water like Bioderma to take off any makeup and sunscreen.

Then, I use a retinoid. Altreno is my absolute favorite. This prescription retinoid is great for people who can’t tolerate generic retinoids. Remember, always use it on your face AND neck!

Afterward, I go straight into a thick moisturizer like Epionce Intensive Nourishing Cream or Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore. Some nights, I may use a growth factor between the retinoid and moisturizer.

Finally, I finish up with a lip mask!

Add-Ons

Once a week, I use ISDIN Glicoisdin 25 Intense, and on those days, I don’t use a retinoid.

What skincare and hair products do you repurchase consistently?

Revision Skincare C+ Correcting Complex and Altreno 0.05% lotion (RX).

Any haircare tips for curly-haired girlies?

The most important thing for curly-haired girls is don’t give up on your curls! No set routine works for all curls- they are all so different. Invest in what works for you, invest in a good haircut, and don’t get discouraged- a solid routine that works for your curls can take decades to solidify.

What made you want to pursue a career in cosmetic dermatology?

I love cosmetic dermatology because it’s a beautiful blend of science and art. It is also a field that champions cutting-edge technology, which keeps things exciting. I love the art involved in observing someone’s face, analyzing cosmetic units, and creating a holistic plan that enhances overall natural beauty. I also love the longitudinal relationship I develop with patients in cosmetic dermatology. You develop a special bond, and seeing progress over the years is amazing.

Which cosmetic treatments have made the most significant impact on your skin?

Everyone’s skin is different, so while these treatments have made the most difference for me, your skin could need something different. I love to use the following regularly: neuromodulators, Clear+ Brilliant, Ultherapy.

What emerging cosmetic trends are you excited about?

I’m excited about ‘facial harmonization.’ In the past, we used to focus on one cosmetic subunit at a time, but now, we’re looking at the bigger picture; we’re much more focused on the 360-age-gracefully plan, which I love. I’m also thrilled that there is much more emphasis on natural results. We want to enhance appearance, not necessarily change appearance.

How do you balance your busy lifestyle with self-care?

This gets harder and harder every year. Number one is time management because we have only a finite number of hours each day. I plan ahead and set aside time for work, family, and friends. Besides sticking to a schedule, I always prioritize regular exercise.

Who is a woman that has inspired you, and what did you learn from her?

So many of my female mentors have played such a huge role in my career and life. Someone who stands out, though, is Dr. Sabrina Fabi. As soon as we met, we vibed right away. She is incredibly talented, bright, authentic, and kind. As I spent more time with her, I realized how much she had accomplished so early in her career and so gracefully! She taught me always to make work fun and to always be true to myself.

Can you share some advice that has significantly impacted your life?

Dr. Shannon Humphrey with Humphrey & Beleznay Cosmetic Dermatology always says, ‘You need to find your North Star’; this has stuck with me. Good things happen when you’re true to your purpose and individuality.

What’s something about you that surprises people once they get to know you?

I love to crochet and make polymer clay magnets!

If you could describe your aura or energy in a color, what would it be and why?

Orange, but I’m not sure why…

What’s next for you, and what are you most looking forward to?

I moved back to DC this summer to join Dr. Tina Alster at the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery. I’m looking forward to growing my practice and getting back into industry collaboration/ research development.
