Weekly Highlights: September 16-22

NYC

This week in New York was full of amazing surprises, memorable stops, and unexpected encounters. Here’s a glimpse into what made it special!

Sunday Strolls Through Soho

Soho is one of my favorite places to walk on the weekend (or anytime). I love being surrounded by people (good thing I live in NYC!), and the streets of Soho are always packed. One unexpected highlight was stumbling upon the Ashley Longshore gallery. Known for her vibrant, pop-art-style works, Longshore’s art is playful and colorful and often carries a message of female empowerment and self-expression (not so different from what I try to create in The Collective!). Her pieces, from oversized portraits of celebrities to whimsical, bold statements, always catch your eye and make you smile.

Later in Soho, I came across Mai Shoshani, an NYC DJ, spinning out of the back of a car! Only in New York City!

Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy

On Tuesday, I walked through The Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy, a festival that's been a New York tradition since 1926. The celebration of Italian culture fills the streets with fantastic food, live music, and vibrant energy (and makes me feel like I’m in an episode of The Sopranos). Although I didn’t try anything, I noted where most people were for my loyal readers! Cannolis from Caffé Palermo, sausages from Lucy’s Sausage, and any stand with zeppoles (crispy, fried dough covered in powdered sugar.)

A Night at Bar Valentina – My Lower East Side Go-To

Bar Valentina remains my Lower East Side go-to for an evening “drink” (sober queen, here). The ambiance is stylish yet relaxed, perfect for catching up with friends or unwinding after a long day. The food/cocktail menu is always on point, and it’s one of those bars where everything feels just right, from the lighting to the conversation.

Saturday at Happier Grocery – The NYC Take on Erewhon

I decided to check out Happier Grocery on Saturday, a new spot that's become NYC’s version of Erewhon. As someone who loves a good wellness shop, I was intrigued. The store offers a well-curated selection of clean-label, organic products. I tried their popular Green Friend smoothie, but I have to say—my homemade version still reigns supreme. If you’re into wellness, Happier Grocery is worth a stop, but Erewhon is superior.

Roaming Through Dimes Square- Dr. Ali’s Favorites*

One of my favorite parts of the weekend was wandering through Dimes Square, a pocket-sized yet iconic corner of the Lower East Side. The name "Dimes Square" comes from Dimes Deli and Restaurant, which is at the heart of this little cultural hub. Over the years, it has evolved into a trendy, creative enclave.

On weekends, Dimes Square really comes to life. The streets open up to foot traffic, and the outdoor seating spills over, giving it a relaxed, European feel. People gather outside at sidewalk tables, sipping coffee or wine, chatting, and enjoying the vibrant energy. One of my favorite spots in the city.
