Weekly Highlights: Oct 28-Nov 3
Tuesday: C as in Charlie
On Tuesday, I visited C as in Charlie, a Southern and Korean tapas spot with an amazing atmosphere. The decor has a curated, hipster-chic look that mixes neon lights with a back-kitchen vibe, giving it a nostalgic yet modern edge. The food was on point and very reasonably priced. I’d 10/10 recommend their popcorn chicken—it was crispy, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. This is a great spot if you’re looking for something unique, casual, and delicious!
Wednesday: Jac’s on Bond & a Soho Stroll
Wednesday night was all about Jac’s on Bond, where I caught the Brujas takeover. Brujas is a witchy bar in Mexico City run by females, which we love at the Collective. I’ve always wanted to visit the bar in CDMX but haven’t made it during any of my trips, so I was so excited to hear about their NYC takeover. It did not disappoint and was just as magical as I expected. The bartenders created a non-alcoholic cotton candy drink for me with such a unique flavor profile!
Afterward, I strolled through Soho. The weather was incredible; I wore a sleeveless top and skirt at the end of October—it felt almost surreal. The streets were lively, and the energy was high with Halloween around the corner. I had plans to try the gluten-free pizza at Rubirosa, but the wait was too long, so I went to Jajaja Mexicana instead, one of my go-to spots for gluten-free and vegan eats.
Thursday: Halloween in NYC
This year’s theme for the NYC’s Village Halloween Parade was MEOW!, celebrating all things feline. While I couldn’t make it due to work, I heard there was a Thriller flash mob and a huge turnout of creative costumes and floats. Looking forward to being there next year!
Later, I headed to Beetle House, which perfectly captures the spirit of Halloween. This Beetlejuice-themed bar is open year-round and features kitschy decor, Beetlejuice-inspired costumes, and live performances that bring the spooky vibes to life. If you’re into theatrical settings with a side of Tim Burton nostalgia, it’s a must-visit.
Saturday: Union Square Greenmarket & Superbueno
On Saturday morning, I visited the Union Square Greenmarket, where you can find everything from fresh produce and artisanal cheeses to stunning flower arrangements that are particularly popular among visitors. I love browsing the market for fresh ingredients and soaking in the bustling community vibe.
Later, I checked out Superbueno, which recently earned a spot on the World’s Top 50 Best Bars of 2024. They crafted a non-alcoholic Negroni for me that was rich and satisfying. I imagine the cocktails here are equally impressive for anyone who does drink.
Sunday: Restorative Yoga at Humming Puppy
Sunday was all about restoration, and Humming Puppy was the ideal place. I took a restorative yoga class, focusing on mindfulness and gentle movement, which I prefer over high-intensity workouts (I do those during the week and crave something slower on the weekends). The class blended light stretches with chanting and a meditative cool down, creating a truly calming experience. The complimentary tea was a lovely touch, adding to the zen ambiance. I’ll be back!
