Weekly Highlights: February 24 – March 2

Spring is teasing us. This past week, we got a little taste of it—one glorious day over 50 degrees, and suddenly, the city felt alive in a way it hasn’t in months. People shed their puffer jackets, the sidewalks felt a little less hurried, and I took full advantage by exploring some new (and soon-to-be favorite) spots. Here’s what made this week one to remember.

My New Matcha Obsession: Matchaful in SoHo

I finally made my way to Matchaful in SoHo, and wow—this place is a game-changer. Yes, it’s a little pricey, but if you appreciate ceremonial-grade matcha, it’s absolutely worth it. They source directly from Japanese farms and stone-grind their matcha in-house, so every cup is impossibly fresh, smooth, and packed with that deep, umami-rich flavor. I had the Shizen Latte (matcha, house-made almond cashew milk, and a touch of vanilla), and it was perfection. If you’re a matcha person, add this to your list ASAP.

Two New LES Favorites: 10 Bells & Somm Time

Lower East Side never disappoints when it comes to cozy, low-key gems, and this week, I found two new favorites.

  • 10 Bells: This natural wine bar has been around for a while, but I finally stopped in and immediately fell in love. It’s dark, intimate, and effortlessly cool. But the real surprise? The shrimp tacos. Not what you’d expect from a wine bar, but they were so good—perfectly crispy, a little spicy, and balanced with just the right amount of citrus. Order them. Trust me.

  • Somm Time: Another fantastic LES wine bar, but with a totally different feel. This one is bright, welcoming, and feels like a spot where you could easily spend hours catching up with a friend over a glass (or three) of wine. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and the selection is well-curated without being overwhelming.

The Best SoHo Stroll: Prince Street

Yes, it gets crowded, but if you time it right—early mornings or weekday afternoons—Prince Street is one of the most charming streets in SoHo. It has that perfect mix of historic buildings, luxury storefronts, and buzzy cafés. There’s always something happening, and it’s the kind of street where you can just wander and feel inspired.

Brunch at La Mercerie: A Girlfriend-Approved Spot

If you’re looking for a cute, French-inspired brunch spot, La Mercerie in SoHo is it. The space is bright and beautiful (it’s inside a design store, so the aesthetic is impeccable), and the food is just as good. My top recommendation? The almond croissant. It’s flaky, buttery perfection, and honestly, it might be the best one I’ve had in the city. Go with your girlfriends, sip a cappuccino, and pretend you’re in Paris.

Cocktails at Death & Co: A Classic for a Reason

If you’re in the East Village and want a serious cocktail, Death & Co is a must. This place is legendary in the cocktail world, and for good reason—the drinks are inventive, beautifully balanced, and made with precision. Their menu is seasonal and split into categories based on flavor profiles, so whether you’re in the mood for something bright and citrusy or dark and spirit-forward, you’ll find the perfect drink. The ambiance is moody and intimate, making it the ideal spot to wind down a night out.

Between the matcha, wine bars, brunch, and cocktails, this week felt like the perfect little spring preview. Here’s hoping for more warm days ahead.
